Friends for Leisure, the local charity supporting disabled children and young people across Cheshire East has announced its summer activity programme with the emphasis on learning as well as having fun and building friendships.
The programme which coincides with school summer holidays will include an educational talk from the police about online and offline safety, first aid courses and a chance to groom, feed and walk farm animals. There will also be a range of pure fun activities like: Picnic at the Park, footgolf, ten pin bowling, drama and dance sessions and even the chance to make some mocktails.
Charity Manager, Gillian Jones commented: “Summer is a real challenge for parents of disabled young people and there is a distinct need for a bespoke programme like ours that can provide appropriate activities that complement a young person’s educational development during term time as well as helping them nurture those essential social bonds.”
Celebrating its 30th Year in 2025, Friends for Leisure was recently awarded National Lottery funding and uses this and local authority support to ensure that activities are open to all and free of charge, but this is only possible with the help of 100 local volunteers.
“Apart from saving the sheer cost of keeping children active over the summer we give parents peace of mind, as we have the experience to make sure that all our activities offer a safe, inclusive environment for young people.” Gillian added.
